Voluntary and Social Services Organizations

Many individuals in the voluntary and social services sectors have direct daily contact with youth and children, and can play a strong role in contributing to their well being and in supporting their social development. While offering a broad range of services in a community, they are particularly involved in helping the most socially disadvantaged. Members of these organizations generally have a good understanding of their community and the special issues that affect young people. As such, they are uniquely situated to help prevent youth crime, advise on how best to deal with the needs of youth in conflict with the law, and assist young people in reintegrating into their community.

Example of how the voluntary and social services organizations will play a role:

  • Providing Teachers with Information Related to Antisocial Behaviour in Children

The Institute for the Study of Antisocial Behaviour in Youth will develop three bulletins covering subjects such as causes of antisocial behaviour, management of antisocial behaviour, discipline in schools, and so on to help teachers better understand and deal with these problems. The bulletins will be distributed to schools across Canada.
