Canadian Francophonie

Canada has two official languages, English and French. French is the mother tongue of 6.8 million Canadians. This large Francophone community forms an integral component of the Canadian identity and contributes to its unique character.

The vast majority of Francophones live in Quebec. Almost a million Francophones live throughout Canada's other provinces and territories.

Since the second half of the XIXth century, these Francophone minorities have formed organizations, federations and associations that seek to enhance the development of their communities.
