BRITISH COLUMBIA JUDICIAL APPOINTMENTS ANNOUNCED

Ottawa, June 19, 2008 – The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointments:

The Honourable Paul W. Walker, Q.C., a lawyer with Guild, Yule and Company LLP in Vancouver is appointed a Judge of the Supreme Court of British Columbia.  Mr. Justice Walker is replacing Mr. Justice R.J. Bauman (Vancouver) who was appointed to the Court of Appeal.

Mr. Justice Walker received a Bachelor of Arts from Simon Fraser University in 1976 and a Bachelor of Law from the University of British Columbia in 1979.  He was admitted to the Bar of British Columbia in 1980.   Mr. Justice Walker has been a partner with Guild, Yule and Company LLP since 1984.  Mr. Justice Walker was an associate with Guild, Yule and Company LLP from 1979 to 1984.   Mr. Justice Walker has developed an expertise primarily in civil litigation.   In addition, he is a member of several professional associations including the Canadian Bar Association and the British Columbia Bar Association.

The Honourable D. Jane Dardi, a lawyer with Legacy Tax & Trust Lawyers in Vancouver is appointed a Judge of the Supreme Court of British Columbia.  Madam Justice Dardi is replacing Madam Justice D.K. Lovett (Vancouver) who resigned.

Madam Justice Dardi received a Bachelor of Arts in 1978 from the University of British Columbia and a Bachelor of Law from the University of British Columbia in 1982.   She was admitted to the Bar of British Columbia in 1983.  Madam Justice Dardi has been with Legacy Tax & Trust Lawyers since 2000.   Madam Justice Dardi was an associate with Douglas, Symes and Brissenden from 1996 to 2000.  Madam Justice Dardi was an associate with Russell & DuMoulin from 1990 to 1992 and became a partner in 1992.  Madam Justice Dardi has developed an expertise in wills, estates, and trusts litigation.  In addition, she is a member of the Estate Planning Council of Vancouver and a member of the Canadian Bar Association.

The Honourable Kathleen M. Ker, a Crown counsel with Criminal Appeals office in Vancouver is appointed a Judge of the Supreme Court of British Columbia.  Madam Justice Ker is replacing Madam Justice J.A. Prowse (Vancouver) who elected to become a supernumerary judge.

Madam Justice Ker received a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology from Carleton University in 1983 and a Bachelor of Law from the University of British Columbia in 1986.  She was admitted to the Bar of British Columbia in 1989.  Madam Justice Ker is currently a Crown counsel with Criminal Appeals office since 1997 and was defence counsel with Lauk, la Liberté from 1989 to 1997.  Madam Justice Ker has developed an expertise in criminal appellate advocacy as Crown Counsel.  In addition, she is the executive officer for CBA National Criminal Justice Section since 1997 and a mentor for Women Lawyers Forum Mentorship Program since 2006.

These appointments are effective immediately.
